In 2008 I created a painting for an exhibit at the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts Gallery that ran in tandem with the Frida Kahlo exhibit at San Francisco’s Museum of Modern Art. I called it “Frida Saving Frida”.
I was then approached by SFMOMA to create a live oil painting in front of the public on the closing day of the Frida exhibition. They set up a studio according to my needs and I completed the following painting, “Recuerdo”, in 8 hours. Over the course of the day more than 40,000 watched me while I painted.
